Step Up or Down

August 30th, 2010 Posted 12:36 am

Interesting title yeah? I was thinking of a better title for this entry and saw my friend commenting on Facebook about the movie Step Up 3. “Step up or step down” really describes the thoughts and feelings I had for the past one week. There were simple yet happy events happened in the week and those not happy ones.

Last Saturday(21 August), we had our ESS service. Early in the morning, I went to MSC to pass my macbook to the multimedia team and then went to Plaza Singapura to meet Ophelia. Remember the notebook that I made? So I managed to present it to Ophelia. It was so pleasing to see the smile on her face when she first saw the notebook.

And guessed what? That time when I went to get the materials for the notebook, she already guessed that I was going to make the notebook for her. So we spent the rest of the time to write something on the book, something that we want the other party to know about us. After that when the rest of the caregroup members came, we went to the food court for lunch and headed to MSC for service after that.

I want to take this chance to affirm and applaud each and every one of the crew/cast of the whole ESS team for putting up such a wonderful skit, song presentation, anything and everything that they have done. They started everything from scratch, then had numerous meetings, rehearsals just to give their very best.

After service, the whole unit went Park Mall for dinner and then some of us had meeting afterwards. On the way back home, I was very burdened.

On Sunday (22 August), it was a very bad day for me. For those who followed me on Twitter should know what happened to me on that day. (That’s the reason why I privatised my Twitter account because I do not want too many people to know that much) I had a hard time understanding and digesting what had happened. I broke down and cried in front of my family members. *classic* because I do not cry in front of them.

After settling down, I started to write some bible verses to encourage myself. I know no matter what, God is with me and He will not abandon me. He is going to help me overcome all these.

The initial plan was to meet Jesline for our first shepherding at town. But in the end she came down all the way to my house. I really felt much better after that. Always seek for Godly Counsel!! :) and guys, so sorry that I didnt come down to watch soccer.

24 August Tuesday, met up with LiPing for our last shepherding. We went to kallang leisure park to have facial together at Epi Treatz. Epi Treatz has gained the attention and trust of many through their excellent treatments, high service quality and exceptional level of customer service. Their treatments are affordable and widely-praised. Of all the facial salons I went, I really like the services and the treatment Epi Treatz provides. Both liping and I got into the couple room(which is a bigger room and can house two of us in). The staff were very polite and meticulous. For every step that they did, they explained to us the product that they are using and the use of it. They are using the US product called Dermalogica, which is a very well-known and highly raved products on the spree websites.

Let me take you through the steps taken during the facial process. It is taken from this website iCOMPARE. So you guys can take a look at the other packages that Epi Treatz provides.

Step 1: Double Cleanse – Double cleanse to thoroughly remove makeup and grimes.
Step 2: Exfoliate – Exfoliate the skin using an Enzymatic Scrub.
Step 3: Ultrasonic Mist – An ultrasonic mist is used to soften the pores for professional extraction.
Step 4: Extraction – Professional comedones extraction & eyebrow trimming.
Step 5: Ampoule – Apply treatment specific ampoule for advanced corrective facial.
Step 6: Photon Light Therapy – Photon Light Therapy enables better absorption and penetration of the treatment ampoule for advanced corrective facial.
Step 7: Mask – Apply a treatment specific mask for the skin.
Step 8: Shoulder Massage – Shoulder massage relaxes and soothes tired muscles.
Step 9: Scalp and Head Massage – Scalp & head massage releases tension and completes the pampering.
Step 10: Serum and Sun Block – Moisturising serum hydrates the skin, while sun block protects it from harmful UV rays.
Step 11: Back Massage – The final step is a back massage which helps release back tension.

26 August Thursday, met up with Sher and Claris for karaoke. Initially we wanted to sing at Cineleisure but Sher was suggesting to go the *Scape branch since it’s new. While we were karaoke-ING, I was busying using the laptop and stalked the UOL website for my results. But in the end, the website was still down. We sang for three hours and had like 6 pages long of songs uncleared. We are really hardcore singers..

After karaoke, we went to pop by the 987fm studio and saw The Muttons. Vernon saw us and waved to us! :)

Shopped around after that and went back home. Around 730pm, I got to know that the results was out so immediately went to check my results. A few days back, I was sharing to some friends telling them how important this result is to me. Year 2009 and 2010, a period that I started serving a lot in the ministry, getting busy with church stuff. My mum was also aware of it. And I want to prove her wrong that I can actually juggle well with ministry stuff and studies and that my studies will not be affected just because I keep going service or caregroups. And indeed, I proved her wrong!! AMEN! I can still do well academically and at the same time, serve God. She was quite happy with the results I got and that night, I tried to help her understand that I can serve God and not neglecting my studies.

I got two modules thats of the 2nd upper honors grade. I know this is really from God. Really want to give thanks to God especially for my Psychology paper because the day before my paper, my pet passed away and I was very upset. I thought I will screw up the paper.

16Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Arrival of the Macbook Pro

9 June 2010 marks the “birth” of my first laptop and the macbook pro. I’ve been longing for a personal laptop after using the big desktop that I have in the living room for years. In the end, I managed to persuade my parents to allow me to buy a laptop. Choosing macbook over the rest was because of the applications in the laptop. iMovie, Photobooth or even Garageband are some applications that I will be using.

Then, I got myself the screen protector, laptop casing and the keyboard protector. :)

My Eventful and Wonderful Sunday

For the past one week, I was grounded at home. Many things happened, tried to reconcile but it turned out worse. It was really bad that I broke down twice. Many emotions came flooding up my mind – sadness, anger, jealousy. I was really very stretched as I was being challenged and tested. People disappoint me, people not treating me well and added in harsh words on me. But I really want to thank people who are always supporting me – the four awesomes (junyao, jesline, bentay, liyin), and each and every one in my caregroup who smsed and called to encourage me, lending me a listening ear.

On Thursday, I finally was able to sneak out of the house to meet my shepherd for shepherding. Initially wanted to give her a surprise birthday treat but in the end she ended up eating the Shih Lin crispy chicken. In the end I got pork floss omelette for her. During shepherding, she gave me an article to read. It was talking about Heart of Hatred. It came very timely as it was something I experienced in the week. In the article, it shows the verse – Luke 7:47 Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—for she loved much. But he who has been forgiven little loves little.” The whole story is actually focusing on Matthew 18:15-35 (A brother who sins against you). God has forgiven us for all our sins, God forgives us for the hurts we created, but why are we so unforgiving for people who have hurt us? It’s so easy to say that we should forgive the person but when it comes to reality, it’s so hard to obey what it says. I’m still trying to reconcile the issue that I’m facing, forgiving that person for the hurt he created.

On Friday, met up with my four awesomers – junyao, jesline, bentay and liyin. Liyin and I were early so we went to Cathay Aston’s to queue up while waiting for the rest to come. By the time, both of us were very hungry and we ordered double-up chicken set. :) and also celebrated Bentay’s bday. Really very happy to meet up with them and HTHT with them.

Saturday was my er gu zhang’s 70th birthday. We had the birthday dinner at orchard vegetarian restaurant. Played with my nieces and nephew. Check out some of the photos.

And Sunday came. The initial plan was to just have brunch with Jesline and head back home. But since I was able to get out of the house, must as well meet up with people. So in the end, I met caixuan for shopping. After that, Benson smsed me asking if I’m interested to watch the soccer match between Manchester United and Chelsea. :) Before heading to benson’s house, met up with the others who were at town – Junyao, Bentay, Luke and RenHui. We had dinner at Centrepoint foodcourt and then cam-whoring session started. We went Central’s Rooftop Garden. Sooo love it!! On my Formspring account, one of the questions asked was “If you could go only to one restaurant for the next five years, which would it be?” and my answer was “I do not know any exact restaurant I want to go. But those rooftop ones would be great.” :) So nice!! I would want to go Sky Garden next time.

After that, Jonathan, Benson and Ona came along so we headed to Benson’s house for the match. After that, Benson, Luke and Jonathan sent me home. It was a windy and speedy night as we wind down the windows of the car. Thanks dudes! :)

So happy to meet up with these people after missing caregroup and service for the past week. :)

Camp cramps

July 27th, 2010 Posted 2:52 pm

Oh no.. I realised that I have not been blogging much about my life and updating you guys. Just a few weeks ago, I came back from my church camp and before that I had matriculation camp and was serving as an orientation group leader (OGL).

A few months before the camp, I got “informed” to be the OGL. I was freaked out. Ever since I stepped down from the leadership role in my high school days, I have not been taking up any leadership roles. The leadership skills were rusty. Being an OGL was indeed a challenge for me then. Soon after I got to know that I will be the OGL, I had two nightmares. I think I was too overwhelmed. During the whole period of matriculation, I prayed to God to help me, and be patient with the people. It was really hard to gather the people to stop talking in their groups to listen to me. So, I used my whistle to grab their attention. There were times I almost lost temper. There were times I was pissed off  with myself especially during the last two days of the camp when I completely lost my voice. I pissed off with myself of the lack of ability to rally people(hopefully people did not misunderstand me that I am pissed of with them). I want to extend my appreciation to people who encouraged me and supported me – Jesline, JunYao, Bentay and Liyin. Overall, the experience of being an OGL was great. It wasn’t that terrible, scary thing afterall. :)   Dont know why I need to fear so much..

Next, was the uni camp (16-18 July). It was my first uni camp as a member of the SIM family. I missed the one last year but I attended one uni camp before with the NUS group (with my brother and calyn) two years back at St John’s Island. Both camps gave me two different experiences. 2008, I was a blur girl, who just joined the NUS CG not long and went for the camp since I had nothing to do. This year (2010), I cannot be blur blur, xiao mei mei as there are new people in the group and I got to embrace them, and at the same time support my leaders. This year’s unicamp, I started to serve in areas such as the multimedia and be a support singer in the singing ministry. From this, I see how I’ve grown in my walk with God.

Though the camp was fun, and with the new structure in the ministry, my heart was much burdened for the people. Things I eagerly wanted to do for the group during the camp were restricted by other stuff. Was very affected by the restrictions I faced, the lack of control that I have, the vulnerability of myself, the inadequacy. As I was sharing with Jesline on the way back from service, I broke down. Thanks Jesline for listening to me and asking me to look at the situation from different direction. :)

Renovating my room

June 1st, 2010 Posted 8:26 pm

Still remember that I want to renovate my room after exam? So for the past few days, I tidied up my table, removing those unnecessary notes that I will not need it anymore. (http://www.simplyjas.com/blog/2010/05/27/r-i-p-gui-gui/) It’s just like doing some spring cleaning before chinese new year.

Wiped my cabinet, shelves.

And take a look at part of my hello kitty collection:

Today, I went IKEA with Mummy. We spent the whole day walking around and looking out for inspiration for the design of my room. In the end, I got this wall shelves at $49 (with the frame) and I will use it as a rack to display all my Jay Chou collectibles. (http://www.simplyjas.com/blog/2009/01/17/happy-30th-birthday-jay/) But before I mount the shelf to the wall, I’m going to paint my room first. It’s gonna be a massive makeover of my room and hopefully it turns out great. :)

And, a few days ago, I posted something on my Twitter and Facebook asking people where I can sell or give away my story books. I have a lot of story books but I dont think I will use them anymore. Initially, I wanted to sell them away to earn some bucks. But I think donating them away will be more meaningful. The books can bring smiles to the children, benefit them. It is much better than having these storybooks on the racks of the bookstore and waiting for people to purchase them.

So, I went online to search for some charity organisations – Salvation Army, Singapore Children Society etc. I got to chance upon this charity organisation called BooksToRead (http://www.bookstoread.org.sg/). This is what they said on their official website:

Millions of children in Africa today are struggling to receive the benefits of a good education because they have limited access to key educational materials such as textbooks and storybooks. Elementary education is scattershot and illiteracy rates are high even in the wealthier nations. Higher education is almost unheard in majority of the Sub-Saharan regions of Africa. We at Books to Read believe that all children should have an undeniable right to good education and want to help children unleash and achieve their true potential in society.

Books To Read humble beginnings started in Singapore in 2008 with a group of committed young adults who believed in the power of education and the importance of helping the less fortunate in society. We begin collecting text books and story books for school children in Africa under our flagship project SAIL (Singapore Africa Initiative for Learning). What started as an initiative to help children in Africa has transformed into a long term commitment to empower students in Tanzania and Zambia with the means to eradicate poverty. Through our dedicated volunteers and generous books donors, we have been able to supply more than 13,000 books to six schools in Zambia and Tanzania in 2009. By 2010, we hope to raise more than 50,000 books.

Going to Africa for mission trip  has been something that I would like to do. When I was young, I saw documentations and TV shows showing about the people in Africa. I do feel for them and it interests me a lot to help  the people there. Greater chance that I will donate my books to BooksToRead but I will need to find out more about it. If you have any information or comments about BooksToRead, to let me know. :)

I met a strange (or friendly) lady?!

May 23rd, 2010 Posted 9:20 pm

I said I wanted to blog on Wednesday to narrate what happened after caregroup on Wednesday but I didn’t have much time to blog. I’m still left with one more paper – Psychology. There are tonnes of reading and memorizing work yet to be done. I’m now using my iPhone to blog as I’m on my way to have family dinner. It is my dad and mum’s 30th wedding anniversary.

On Wednesday after caregroup, I got my newest Jay Chou’s album from hanyun. While waiting for the train ride back home, I eagerly opened up the package and admired the cd. Suddenly, this lady(CoCo) who was sitting beside me started to talk to me.

Coco: isn’t this jay chou’s album? You preordered it?
Jassy: ya
Coco: wah, you managed to get it? I didn’t preorder so I couldn’t get it.
Jassy: ok

So our train came and she boarded the same train as me. Throughout the whole conversation, our whole topic revolves around Jay Chou. But seriously, I don’t think she is a fan of him? She didn’t go for his concert, don’t buy his album? After 10mins of chat, she asked for my handphone number. What? I barely know you and you want my number? We are just strangers who happened to have a common interest. So I asked her why she wanted my number and she said she wants to make friends with me. Wah. It was a surprise for me as I thought we will just say bye to each other and never see each other. But I didn’t know how to reject her, I gave my number to her. When I was saying out my phone numbers, I felt like giving her my mum’s number or just give her a fake 8 digits. But I didn’t. When Coco realized that I was hesistating to read out the numbers, she actually called my number to verify. Smart!

Besides chatting about jay, coco told her background. She came to Singapore from malaysia ipoh for a year or so. She’s working as an accountant. She told me she is unsure whether if accountancy is what she want. She stays at sembawang but yet she took the green line and up the red one(when she can take the train str from cityhall-where I met her).

The next day morning, went national library to study with Shawn. We studied until 630pm. Knowing that Shawn is meeting his caregroup at commonwealth, I went to buy Rockery bubbletea and surprised my shepherd with my presence and bubbletea. Hope it really blessed my shepherd.

After getting the bubbletea, we went to take a train from Bugis. Suddenly, someone tapped me from the back! Guess who did I see? It’s CoCo!! This is the second day I saw her and to me, I find it scary. Maybe it’s because I didn’t meet someone so friendly in my whole life (like asking for my number after chatting for like 10 minutes?!). Initially, I thought she will follow me to take the train back (but luckily she didn’t cause she thought Shawn and I were together. But never mind, it’s a beautiful lie)

Reached commonwealth and waited for my shepherd’s appearance. Meanwhile, I received two smses from CoCo.

After meeting my shepherd, went back home.

Anyway, for the past few days, I have been going to nlb to study. Made some new friends too. On Friday, we had late dinner together at Nando’s. Thank God for two guys for helping us to queue since 8pm while the rest of us went down at 9pm, after the library closes. And ten of us managed to find a seat at around 945pm.

I’m loving music covers

May 10th, 2010 Posted 8:59 pm

Can I use the word “obsessed” to describe my affection towards music covers? And this is part of the reason why I want to get a Macbook after my exams. With good software for video editing, voice recording :) Great investment yeah?

Previously, I posted two Youtube clips on my blog of people doing music covers. Here’s another:

And I would like to take this opportunity to call out to music lovers who are passionate about singing, playing instruments and keen to record music covers with me. Tweet or email me @ l0ve.jassy@yahoo.com.

When I was feeling down.. when I was vexed.. when I was lost and stunned.. There were people who grabbed hold of me tightly, lent their listening ears, gave me advices, taught and guided me, challenged me. These are people whom I knew for long, people that I love and people who love me. What blessed me was a phone call from SK (I ended up talking to him on the phone for like 1 hr and 37 minutes). Thank God for these wonderful friendships.

For the past one week, I had to go back to school every day for a 6 hours lecture. Exams are around the corner and we had intensive revision. Got back my preliminary papers and the results were bad. Though I passed all, it’s not fantastic. I got 35 for POA, 51 for Psychology, 40 for Management Mathematics. I still haven got back my marketing paper yet.

5 April 2010 - Had our first followup with Sher. We had dinner at Republic of Steak at Victoria Hotel. Sher, must remember what you’ve shared to us and your convictions okay? It’s not too late now if you start somewhere here.

6-11 April 2010 – The start of my intensive lectures. I have been seeing my jayfeelalike for 36 hours. Got to know some new friends and went out together for lunch, someone who got me so angry.

7 April 2010 – During marketing lecture, caixuan came and crashed my class since her lesson had ended. After marketing lesson, we headed down to Raffles City . Halfway shopping, we were stopped by this guy who was promoting the mineral makeup. He introduced his product and demonstrated it on our faces. He did not realise that he has successfully pissed me off especially when we tried to give some excuses that we do not have enough money to buy the mineral makeup. Guess what did he say? He said “oo..never mind, both of you just give me 500 hugs and kisses will do.” I rolled my eyes on the spot, just that two tight slaps were not awarded to him. After that, we went to Bras Basah mac to study. After 30 minutes, I heard a familiar voice. I looked up and saw Ah Ben who was sitting beside our table. OMG!

10 April 2010 – Had management mathematics lecture and then met jenn yang at Clementi MRT and headed for church service. I will never forget how I got to know this person called Jesus.

I was one of the OGLs for the orientation program during the JAE period. During the orientation, I received a phone call from my mum telling me how slim my chance was to enter to the school that I appealed. Sat on the staircase behind the school hall crying in despair, Jenn came from the hall and found me. He told me to pray and trust God. So I prayed. Immediately, the school called me up. That was the first time I experienced and received God’s blessing.

By the time we reached HSR, service was started long ago. After that, we had our dinner at Koufu. After that, took train back home with jy and Jenn. and thanks Jenn for sending me home. :)

Back home, had a phone call with BT. and then just before I went to sleep, I received phone call from SK. I was really touched because I only got to know him not long and he really made the effort to call me and check on me if I was okay and if I need any help. Really really.. I was really very blessed.

This morning, I received a message from someone. I felt very discouraged but I really thank God for A that she is on my side.

Bible verse of the day:

2 Corinthians 4:8
“We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; 9persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed”

2 Corinthians 4:17-18
17For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
