On Tuesday (26 Aug 08), my family and I went to Boon Lay Raja Restaurant for celebrate Daddy’s birthday. Hey, dont get mixed up. Though the name of the restaurant says “Boon Lay”, but it is not located at Boon Lay. A stone’s throw away from Jurong East MRT is Boon Lay Raja Restaurant Pte Ltd (Seafood & Shark’s Fin Restaurant) 文苑楼, a place where it offers chinese cuisine. It is located at Blk 135 Jurong East St 13 #02-337 (opp Jurong East MRT), beside Jurong East Entertainment Centre.

Before the food was served, we had peanuts to sustain our hunger. Our first dish was served - Mango Roasted Duck.

The previous time I came here to eat the Roasted Duck, the skin was very crispy. It tasted like Beiking Roasted Chicken. But it was a disappointment this time round. It tasted no difference like the normal duck rice we can get outside.

Scallop with Asparagus and Celery
Scallop with Asparagus and Celery
This small plate of scallops costs $18 and scallops were stingily given. I can count using one hand, 3 fingers. In this dish, there are little octopus heavily flavoured with sweet and spicy sauce. Food was ok, but pricey.

I only managed to take photos of 2 dishes out of the 5. Besides Mango Roasted Duck and Scallop with Asparagus and Celery, we had Fried Ee Noodles, Shark Fin’s Soup and Chili Crab.

Service @ Boon Lay Raja Restaurant
The waiters and waitress were really nice and helped us distribute the food to the small bowls and plates, and often come to our table to check if we need any help. To my amazement, Boon Lay Raja Restaurant does not charge for service charge, but yet they gave us very good service. *applause for the spirit of the staff*

It was my last day in the company as a full-time staff. After work, Jia Yi, Lynn, Tracie and I went down to Togi Korean Restaurant to have our dinner. Situtated along the stretch of Mosque Street, Togi was buzzing with people queueing outside the shop and wait for the staff to usher them in. Luckily we’ve booked the place and got in to the restaurant fast.

Togi is a famous korean restaurant and I heard that it was well known for their BBQ pork belly wrapped with lettuce. We were served a wide variety of appetizers like asparagus, cucumber, kimchi etc etc. This shop is owned by a Korean lady boss and the standard of the Korean food is somehow there.

Sam Gyeup Sal consists of pork belly with onions and sliced potatoes and mushrooms on the side. As I mentioned earlier, Togi is well known for their BBQ pork belly wrapped with lettuce. Wrap the lettuce with sliced garlic, a tab of green chilli and brown sauce.

Ginseng Chicken Soup
Ginseng Chicken Soup

Wow..I’ve never tried Ginseng Chicken Soup before. When you cut open the chicken, you reveal another secret of the dish. Sticky glutinous rice is wrapped inside the chicken. The soup comes free-flow and you can drink as much as you can.

For lunch, my colleagues and I went to one of the restaurant at International Plaza. Kia Hiang Restaurant (嘉香大酒棲)is located at the second floor. My colleagues have been mentioning to me that their Claypot Spring Chicken is nice, and wanted to bring me there long ago.

Kia Hiang Restaurant was recommended by Singapore Health Promotion Board as a choice for healthier dining.

This is one of those no frills, true old school, Cantonese restaurant that serves good home-style food. While its cream-coloured interior may not spell modern-chic, the clean, neat environment and friendly serve staff made my visit a pleasant and comfortable experience. It’s good to know that this restaurant offers several dishes on their menu that are lower in fat and salt. Source: Health Promotion Board

Among all the dishes I had, this is my favorite, and this is the restaurant’s specialty dish. This dish is the reason why people are here.  The chicken is wrapped by cabbage and it is slowly braised for 3 hours where the chicken soup is made into gravy.

On monday, my colleague treated me lunch as a farewell gesture. Yesh. I will be leaving my company soon. :( ..Tomorrow.. We had our lunch at Blue Mist Cafe, the one at the corner of Amara Shopping Centre. It’s a small and cosy place, a nice place to chill out too. My top chill-out place would be Just Acia, with free flow of ice-cream and drinks! Though this cafe bar is small, but it provides wide variety of food for you to choose. You can choose either sit in or go the alfresco style.

Our meal comes with the main course, one soup-of-the-day and a choice of either tea or coffee. The price ranges from S$13.90-S$18.90.

I had this and it’s super nice!! Simply a WOW dish. The mashed potato is different from what you can get from fast-food restaurant or western-food restaurant. The mashed potato does not have all it’s potato being mashed, and we can still “feel” pieces of potatoes in it. The salmon with the sauce that tastes like cheese is more than awesome.
