So Long, Farewell, It’s Time To Say Goodbye

Why do all good things come to an end?

Tomorrow will be my last day at work. I have been working in this company for more than 6 months, since 4 Jan 2008. Time really flies and i will need to go back to school real soon. Ya..next week… studying what I want to be in the future. During my stay in this company, i really learned a lot. There are some people I need to thank.

First, is my cousin Nicole who recommended me this job. I didnt expect myself to be in the working class that fast. End of 2007, I applied for relief teaching on MOE website. By the end of the year, I did not receive any calls from the schools, so I thought the chance of being a relief teacher is slim. So, i started to ask around my friends, my relatives. I remember on 31st December 2007, when I was at my friend’s house counting down to the new year, my cousin asked me if i want to help her in her finance department. So i agreed and an interview was arranged.

James - A few days before the interview, I typed out my resume and emailed to my cousin. Then I went to the company website to look for the photo of the MD, who will be interviewing me. Need to get myself prepared before the interview. I started to “role-play” how the interview will be like and think of the questions that will be asked. The day for interview, I was super nervous. It was my first formal interview, compared to what I went through in the past. The interview went unexpectedly smooth. James wasnt as stern as what I thought and the interview wasnt as scary as what I thought. I enjoyed the interview and James was friendly. I thought I will screw up. Thank James for letting me to be a part of this family.

Dawn - The next day after the interview was my first day at work. I got to learn the software PROAD and basically do data entry for the first week. The first colleague I got to know was Dawn. She sat opposite me. Our conversation started out when she asked me if I’ve been to the pantry. So she showed me around. Besides work, Dawn encouraged me during my sad days, and assured me that everything will be okay.

Emily - The second person I know is my fellow colleague, Emily. Knowing that I have no accounting background, she is patient to me and guided me whenever I needed help. Whenever I have any queries, she will not fail to help me and do not find me irritating. We shared sweet and bitter times at work together with Nicole. I remember when I first joined in, we just implemented a new system and everything was not stabilised. That was the toughest time for three of us. We even stayed up during the weekends, INCLUDING SUNDAYS to clear up everything that we need to do to get everything on track. We went through the toughest times together. (http://www.simplyjas.com/blog/2008/07/24/good-bye-emily/)

Jo - The first time I talked to Jo was when she called me to scan her some documents. HAHA…I love to remember all this small little things. Really thank Jo for her help during my stay here and especially when Nicole was not around. That time, there wasnt anyone for me to turn to when I’m the only person left in my department. So I called Jo for help and she was there to help me. Thanks for all her support to our finance department. It’s really tough for her. (http://www.simplyjas.com/blog/2008/04/04/visit-from-my-colleague-from-uk/)

Jia Yi, Phyllis, Lynn & Sheryl - The next few people I got to know were the admin girls-Jia Yi, Phyllis, Lynn and Sheryl. They treat me like a little girl and guided me a lot. They are the next closest colleagues and I shared my problems with them. They helped me change my perception, and look at things in a broader, better and positive way. I’m always feel better after sharing my problems with them.

Agnes - We only got to talk to each other on the phone end May =x when I called to ask her about invoicing. We managed to see each other during our party. It was our first time, and last time seeing each other. Thanks for consolidating the supplier invoices and email me to make payment. Thanks for helping me do up the cheques occasionally. She must be very busy helping the finance team and do her own stuff.

Neel - Before Agnes join, Neel was the one sending us the supplier invoices to make payment. It was really great working with both Neel and Agnes.

Chris - I didnt expect myself working until now. Intially, I planned to stop work end of June and will not have chance to see Chris again. The first time we met was at RedDot Brewhouse. Although he’s with us not long, I still wanna thank him for his support to the finance team.

Though I will be returning to my company next week as a part timer, the feeling will be different. I’m no longer working 5 days per week.. I’m already used to taking the mrt to work, sitting the whole day to work. Soon, I will be carrying thick books, big files, moving around from one lecture room to another. Haix.. have to switch to the “schooling” mood soon.

Read more here.

This few days, I have been clearing the work pending for me to do as fast as possible, before I leave. At least, I need to make sure that I’ve completed my task before leaving. I will definitely miss all my nice colleagues here. and I definitely will not miss the time I need to come back office on Sundays, working 12 hours. =x  I will not miss the time I need to work for two company..one in the morning, another at night..

14 February 2008 - Happy Colleagues’ Daybookmarks

There will be a lot of things for me to do after I stop work. I’ll be tidying up my room, photoshop-ING, bloggING, shoppING, karaoke-ING, recordING..

Blue Mist Cafe

On monday, my colleague treated me lunch as a farewell gesture. Yesh. I will be leaving my company soon. :( ..Tomorrow.. We had our lunch at Blue Mist Cafe, the one at the corner of Amara Shopping Centre. It’s a small and cosy place, a nice place to chill out too. My top chill-out place would be Just Acia, with free flow of ice-cream and drinks! Though this cafe bar is small, but it provides wide variety of food for you to choose. You can choose either sit in or go the alfresco style.

Our meal comes with the main course, one soup-of-the-day and a choice of either tea or coffee. The price ranges from S$13.90-S$18.90.

I had this and it’s super nice!! Simply a WOW dish. The mashed potato is different from what you can get from fast-food restaurant or western-food restaurant. The mashed potato does not have all it’s potato being mashed, and we can still “feel” pieces of potatoes in it. The salmon with the sauce that tastes like cheese is more than awesome.

Ding Tai Feng at Bishan Junction8

I always wanted to blog about my visit to Ding Tai Feng (鼎泰豐), Taiwan’s top dumpling chain, but didnt because I do not ahve nice photos of the food. That day, I was using my brother’s camera and the resolution wasnt very great. The gist of food blog entry is to draw readers’ attention to the restaurant and then visit them after reading my entry. Photos will be very important to show readers how nice/bad is the food.

But now, I’ve decided to blog this. Please bear with the not-so-nice photos.

Sour and Spicy Soup - 酸辣湯
Although the name of this dish is sour and spicy soup, it isnt sour, it isnt spicy. It will only taste better after I added vinegar.

It somehow associates to xiao long bao in the sense that it is juicy. But I still prefer xiao long bao.

Steamed pork dumplings - 小籠包
Each Xiao Long Bao has at least 18 exquisite folds. The skin is made with thin dough and served on the bamboo try. The white cloth is laid on the bamboo try to prevent the dumpling from tearing when getting them. The technique to eat xiao long bao is to suck the juice out and then slowly bite the dumplings.

Yesterday, had a wonderful time with the ladies at Lot One Shoppers’ Mall. Emily, Nicole and I decided to settle our dinner at New York New York. We had a great chat over the dinner, spending the whole evening there.

Root Beer Float

Remember the good old days we have A&W restaurant? The first store opened at Dunearn Road in 1966. The chain’s Singapore operations dwindled by the beginning of the 21st century, and by 2002 it had only 7 outlets around the island. A&W finally closed in 2003. A&W was known for its Root Beer Float. Though A&W has closed down, you can still have a quick stop for an icy cold frosty mug of root beer float at New York New York.

I should have requested for this to come after my meal. By the time I had my main course, Hot Chocolate Velvet became Warm Chocolate Velvet..became Cold Chocolate Velvet. Honestly speaking, I’m quite disappointed with this drink.

It may look like ordinary calamari rings that you can get outside. With a dip of special sauce which taste like satay sauce makes everything perfect.
