Why do all good things come to an end?
Tomorrow will be my last day at work. I have been working in this company for more than 6 months, since 4 Jan 2008. Time really flies and i will need to go back to school real soon. Ya..next week… studying what I want to be in the future. During my stay in this company, i really learned a lot. There are some people I need to thank.
First, is my cousin Nicole who recommended me this job. I didnt expect myself to be in the working class that fast. End of 2007, I applied for relief teaching on MOE website. By the end of the year, I did not receive any calls from the schools, so I thought the chance of being a relief teacher is slim. So, i started to ask around my friends, my relatives. I remember on 31st December 2007, when I was at my friend’s house counting down to the new year, my cousin asked me if i want to help her in her finance department. So i agreed and an interview was arranged.
James – A few days before the interview, I typed out my resume and emailed to my cousin. Then I went to the company website to look for the photo of the MD, who will be interviewing me. Need to get myself prepared before the interview. I started to “role-play” how the interview will be like and think of the questions that will be asked. The day for interview, I was super nervous. It was my first formal interview, compared to what I went through in the past. The interview went unexpectedly smooth. James wasnt as stern as what I thought and the interview wasnt as scary as what I thought. I enjoyed the interview and James was friendly. I thought I will screw up. Thank James for letting me to be a part of this family.
Dawn – The next day after the interview was my first day at work. I got to learn the software PROAD and basically do data entry for the first week. The first colleague I got to know was Dawn. She sat opposite me. Our conversation started out when she asked me if I’ve been to the pantry. So she showed me around. Besides work, Dawn encouraged me during my sad days, and assured me that everything will be okay.
Emily - The second person I know is my fellow colleague, Emily. Knowing that I have no accounting background, she is patient to me and guided me whenever I needed help. Whenever I have any queries, she will not fail to help me and do not find me irritating. We shared sweet and bitter times at work together with Nicole. I remember when I first joined in, we just implemented a new system and everything was not stabilised. That was the toughest time for three of us. We even stayed up during the weekends, INCLUDING SUNDAYS to clear up everything that we need to do to get everything on track. We went through the toughest times together. (http://www.simplyjas.com/blog/2008/07/24/good-bye-emily/)
Jo – The first time I talked to Jo was when she called me to scan her some documents. HAHA…I love to remember all this small little things. Really thank Jo for her help during my stay here and especially when Nicole was not around. That time, there wasnt anyone for me to turn to when I’m the only person left in my department. So I called Jo for help and she was there to help me. Thanks for all her support to our finance department. It’s really tough for her. (http://www.simplyjas.com/blog/2008/04/04/visit-from-my-colleague-from-uk/)
Jia Yi, Phyllis, Lynn & Sheryl - The next few people I got to know were the admin girls-Jia Yi, Phyllis, Lynn and Sheryl. They treat me like a little girl and guided me a lot. They are the next closest colleagues and I shared my problems with them. They helped me change my perception, and look at things in a broader, better and positive way. I’m always feel better after sharing my problems with them.
Agnes – We only got to talk to each other on the phone end May =x when I called to ask her about invoicing. We managed to see each other during our party. It was our first time, and last time seeing each other. Thanks for consolidating the supplier invoices and email me to make payment. Thanks for helping me do up the cheques occasionally. She must be very busy helping the finance team and do her own stuff.
Neel – Before Agnes join, Neel was the one sending us the supplier invoices to make payment. It was really great working with both Neel and Agnes.
Chris – I didnt expect myself working until now. Intially, I planned to stop work end of June and will not have chance to see Chris again. The first time we met was at RedDot Brewhouse. Although he’s with us not long, I still wanna thank him for his support to the finance team.
Though I will be returning to my company next week as a part timer, the feeling will be different. I’m no longer working 5 days per week.. I’m already used to taking the mrt to work, sitting the whole day to work. Soon, I will be carrying thick books, big files, moving around from one lecture room to another. Haix.. have to switch to the “schooling” mood soon.
Read more here.
This few days, I have been clearing the work pending for me to do as fast as possible, before I leave. At least, I need to make sure that I’ve completed my task before leaving. I will definitely miss all my nice colleagues here. and I definitely will not miss the time I need to come back office on Sundays, working 12 hours. =x I will not miss the time I need to work for two company..one in the morning, another at night..
14 February 2008 – Happy Colleagues’ Day
There will be a lot of things for me to do after I stop work. I’ll be tidying up my room, photoshop-ING, bloggING, shoppING, karaoke-ING, recordING..

Blue Mist Cafe
July 29th, 2008 Posted 10:40 pm
On monday, my colleague treated me lunch as a farewell gesture. Yesh. I will be leaving my company soon. :( ..Tomorrow.. We had our lunch at Blue Mist Cafe, the one at the corner of Amara Shopping Centre. It’s a small and cosy place, a nice place to chill out too. My top chill-out place would be Just Acia, with free flow of ice-cream and drinks! Though this cafe bar is small, but it provides wide variety of food for you to choose. You can choose either sit in or go the alfresco style.
Our meal comes with the main course, one soup-of-the-day and a choice of either tea or coffee. The price ranges from S$13.90-S$18.90.

Grilled Salmon Set
I had this and it’s super nice!! Simply a WOW dish. The mashed potato is different from what you can get from fast-food restaurant or western-food restaurant. The mashed potato does not have all it’s potato being mashed, and we can still “feel” pieces of potatoes in it. The salmon with the sauce that tastes like cheese is more than awesome.

Ding Tai Feng at Bishan Junction8
July 27th, 2008 Posted 10:53 am
I always wanted to blog about my visit to Ding Tai Feng (鼎泰豐), Taiwan’s top dumpling chain, but didnt because I do not ahve nice photos of the food. That day, I was using my brother’s camera and the resolution wasnt very great. The gist of food blog entry is to draw readers’ attention to the restaurant and then visit them after reading my entry. Photos will be very important to show readers how nice/bad is the food.
But now, I’ve decided to blog this. Please bear with the not-so-nice photos.

Sour and Spicy Soup – 酸辣湯
Although the name of this dish is sour and spicy soup, it isnt sour, it isnt spicy. It will only taste better after I added vinegar.

It somehow associates to xiao long bao in the sense that it is juicy. But I still prefer xiao long bao.

The fried rice smells and tastes great. But, I’m not really a rice-lover.

Steamed pork dumplings – 小籠包
Each Xiao Long Bao has at least 18 exquisite folds. The skin is made with thin dough and served on the bamboo try. The white cloth is laid on the bamboo try to prevent the dumpling from tearing when getting them. The technique to eat xiao long bao is to suck the juice out and then slowly bite the dumplings.

New York New York

Yesterday, had a wonderful time with the ladies at Lot One Shoppers’ Mall. Emily, Nicole and I decided to settle our dinner at New York New York. We had a great chat over the dinner, spending the whole evening there.

Root Beer Float
S$7.60
Remember the good old days we have A&W restaurant? The first store opened at Dunearn Road in 1966. The chain’s Singapore operations dwindled by the beginning of the 21st century, and by 2002 it had only 7 outlets around the island. A&W finally closed in 2003. A&W was known for its Root Beer Float. Though A&W has closed down, you can still have a quick stop for an icy cold frosty mug of root beer float at New York New York.

Coffee Float
S$7.60
After Root Beer Float, innovative people came out with different types of floats. And we got Coffee Float.
A scoop of Vanilla ice-cream floating on top of the big mug of coffee.

Hot Chocolate Velvet
S$6.90
I should have requested for this to come after my meal. By the time I had my main course, Hot Chocolate Velvet became Warm Chocolate Velvet..became Cold Chocolate Velvet. Honestly speaking, I’m quite disappointed with this drink.

Calamari Rings
S$6.90
It may look like ordinary calamari rings that you can get outside. With a dip of special sauce which taste like satay sauce makes everything perfect.

我知道我变漂亮了 Vs Yesterday
July 26th, 2008 Posted 12:41 am

Sadly, this show has officially ended. How I wish the show can extend for a few episodes. I really enjoyed watching this 13 episodes. By looking at my daily hits, there’s a lot of people watching this show. If you ask me to rate this show, I will give 5 popcorns.
Have you heard for Leona Lewis’ Yesterday? Does this song reminds you of the theme song for 一切完美 theme song? They sound familiar especially the starting of the song.
- Yesterday
I just can’t believe you’re gone
Still waiting for morning to come
Wanna see if the sun will rise
Even without you by my side (ooh yeah)
When we had so much in store
Tell me what is it i’m reaching for
When we’re through building memories
I’ll hold yesterday in my heart, in my heart
Chorus:
They can take tomorrow and the plans we made (plans we made)
They can take the music that we’ll never play
All the broken dreams
Take everything
Just take it away, but they can never have yesterday
They can take the future that we’ll never know (no no)
They can take the places that we said we would go
All the broken dreams
Take everything
Just take it away (oh oh), but they can never have yesterday
You always used to stay
I should be thankful for everyday
Heaven knows what the future holds
Or atleast how the story goes (but I never believed them ’til now)
I know i’ll see you again i’m sure
No, it’s not selfish to ask for more
One more night, one more day
One more smile on you face
But they can’t take yesterday
Chorus:
They can take tomorrow and the plans we made (no no)
They can take the music that we’ll never play (they can take the music that we’ll never play)
All the broken dreams (oh, my broken dreams)
Take everything (take everything)
Just take it away, but they can never have yesterday (oh oh oh)
They can take the future that we’ll never know (we’ll never know)
They can take the places that we said we would go (huh oh oh)
All the broken dreams (all the broken dreams)
Take everything (take everything)
Just take it away, but they can never have yesterday
I thought our days would last forever (but it wasn’t our destiny)
‘Cause in my mind, we had so much time
But i was so wrong
Now i can, believe that
I can still find the strength in the moments we made
I’m looking back on yesterday
Chorus:
They can take tomorrow and the plans we made (ooh ooh)
They can take the music that we’ll never play (no)
All the broken dreams (all the broken dreams)
Take everything (take everything)
Just take it away, but they can never have yesterday (yesterday)
They can take the future that we’ll never know (yeah ah)
They can take the places that we said we would go (that we said we would go)
All the broken dreams (all our broken dreams)
Take everything (take everything)
Just take it away, but they can never have yesterday (they can never hace yesterday)
Ooooh…
(All the broken dreams take everything)
But they can never have yesterday
What do you think?

Good bye Emily.
July 24th, 2008 Posted 11:05 pm
By looking at the title of this entry, you should have guessed that it’s something saddening. Today is my fellow colleague, Emily’s last day in the company. She has been a very nice colleague, a faithful friend to me.
My first impression
She is the first person I know, carrying the most sincere heart. You can feel her sincerity out from her heart. If she do not like you, she will not pretend that she likes you. You can feel that she is very caring, kind and helpful. I seldom have friends like her, who is recycle-concerned and truthful to friends. She does voluntary work and help the less-fortunate. She may be simple looking, but her inner beauty has surpassed her.
At work
Knowing that I have no accounting background, she is patient to me and guided me whenever I needed help. Only three of us understand the hardships we’ve been through.
Outside work
She encouraged and re-assured me when I was lost. She will forward me some encouraging emails.
Sad day at work
Today when I saw the farewell email she sent out, I broke down. Luckily my colleagues sitting around me were out to lunch. Staring at the computer screen, I cried.. silently and hoping that no one will notice me. But suddenly Sheryl came in and I was totally lost. Amy sensed that something was wrong and came over to my table and consoled me. Really thank her a lot. Not sure if she will be seeing this.
I know reunion and parting is part and parcel of life (I’ve learned it during my secondary school time). It does not mean that we will never see each other again. What I am sad is that all the “soldiers” who went “battle” with me have left me. First was Nicole, then now Emily. We’ve worked so hard, come this far.. and I’m the only one who is staying on..

Meet Mimi and Coco
July 23rd, 2008 Posted 9:35 pm
Meet Mimi and Coco, the Maltese girls. Mimi was born on 13 April 2001 and Coco was born on 21 April 2003. They are so adorable especially when they are dolled up with nice clothes and hair pins. These photos are taken from Barbiedoggies.

“Hi, I am Mimi.”

“Sometimes I am sad..”

“Sometimes I am lonely..”

“Walking around the park makes me feel better..”

“It’s my turn.. I am Coco.”

“My favourite color is pink.”

“..and baby blue too..”

“I’m very active and I love to run around..”

“..but there’s sometimes I get tired and stop running around.”

Yummy Desserts @ Amara
July 21st, 2008 Posted 7:57 pm
This is simply yummy that I am blogging this the second time. I highly recommend Yummy Desserts to everyone of you. The drinks are nicely blended and mixed with colorful tadpoles jelly and sago balls. Yummy Desserts is located in Amara Hotel Food Court. You would really like it especially after a walk from your office to Amara Hotel. Yummy Desserts provide you fruity slushies such as watermelon, papaya, honeydew, strawberry, kiwi, avocado and mango. No preservatives added. What you get is really fresh fruits. You can get a cup at the least $2.80.

Strawberry Fruit Juice
I find the price (S$3.30) reasonable for strawberry dessert. Beside strawberry juice, there’s still strawberry to eat.
