QQ Rice
March 12th, 2008 Posted 11:13 pm
Today had QQ Rice with my colleagues for lunch. Sherlynn introduced me long ago but didn’t have chance to eat it.
What is QQ Rice?

QQ means chewy in the dialect of Hokkien. You have 5 choices of dishes to choose from, out of the 30 types vegetarian and non vegetarian prepared dishes. The dishes will be wrapped with your choice of rice or grains, into an elongated shape. You will have it in a wrapping bag.

Ok, let me teach you how to order QQ Rice.
Enjoy your QQ Rice for Dummies
First, choose the type of rice you want: Brown Rice, Supreme Combination Rice, Purple Rice, Mixed Grain and Wheat Germ Brown Rice. Eat it healthily in your own way!

Second, choose 5 fillings to go with the rice that you’ve chosen.
Third, do you want any beverage to go along?
Now, EAT IT! (How to eat: Unpeel the wrapper and eat. The tactic is to bite and squeeze, bite and squeeze. This is to ensure that the ingredients will not fall off.)
I had Cheezy Roll.

Type of Rice/Grains: Purple Rice + Mixed Grain Rice.
Dishes: Turkey Bacon + Cheese + Mushroom + Pan-Fried Egg

RedDot BrewHouse
March 12th, 2008 Posted 9:41 pm
Last wednesday (5 Mar 2008) after work, I went to RedDot Brew House which is located at Dempsey Road.

“Housed in a pre-war colonial building, RedDot BrewHouse is the only microbrewery in Dempsey and offers customers a selection of classic craft beers that boasts the best quality ingredients sourced from around the world. Nestled amidst lush foliage in Dempsey Hill Green, RedDot features indoor seating where customers can enjoy on-site freshly brewed craft beers with char-grilled fare and modern Italian cuisine in a relaxed garden setting that is steeped in old Singapore’s history.” - http://www.dempseyhill.com
Ernest Ng (the founder of RedDot BrewHouse) enjoys brewing his own beer at home. This gives him the idea of setting up his own brewery. Patrons will be able to enjoy their meal in a relaxing garden setting, and they can choose to either stay indoors or outdoors. The indoor setting gives one a classical countryside feeling, just like the feeling of an old English cottage. But, I regret saying, I didn’t have the chance to take a photo of the indoor setting. But I managed to take a picture outside RedDot.

I ordered Governor’s Smile – made up of Orange Juice, Milk, Sugar and syrup. Sadly to say, I didn’t like the taste of it thou.

So, let’s take a look at what we’ve ordered:
Potato Wedges + Soft Shell Crab with wasabi mayo + onion rings + mini spring rolls + French fries

White Dog Café..
March 2nd, 2008 Posted 5:48 pm
Wow! A cafe for the dogs? Nah-uh! The White Dog Café is not a cafe for the dogs, but for us (the human).
Friday after work, went dinner with Ah Hong Jie2 and her family at Vivocity. Baby Gabrielle was in the car. It was already 9pm but there was still a lot of people queueing at various restaurants. In the end, we spotted White Dog Café having the shortest queue. So, we decided to have dinner there.

White Dog Café offers Italian, French and Japanese Cuisine. Mr Bruno Soligny wants to draw the young and also the young at heart in to have enjoy fuss-free meals or indulge in a tête-à-tête with close friends over cakes and coffee. There are different corners for you to sit, giving you different feelings in each themes. If you just want some coffees and cake, you can sit near the entrance of the cafe where a raised platform of bold red lounge seats and chocolate brown walls situated. Should you prefer to have a heavy meal, the dining room will be a better place for you. There, you can have an unobstructed view over the harbour, and the sea beyond. You can also peep through the glasses to see the chefs at work.

Flipping the menu, I saw the picture for Chicken Mango Delight. Mango is one of my favorite fruit, so ordered it to try.

(but the mango taste is a bit weird)
What else in the menu?

While waiting for the food to be served, went to find my friend, Kai Le as her graduation exhibition is at Vivocity. She is from the Design school, and I was really inspired by her artwork. I received her invitation to this event long ago, but didnt expect myself to be there as I was so tied up with work. But thank God, because this unplanned trip down to Vivo, I can finally meet with Kai Le. We have not seen each other for like.. 3 years?Back home, read the reviews on White Dog Cafe, and found out that they have wonderful dessert like cakes. Shall we go again?

P.S.: All the photos (except one) in this entry are taken from Robert J. Steiner.

I dont want to have a No-Life life
March 1st, 2008 Posted 12:45 am
P.S.: The issue may be sensitive to some group of people. Think twice before reading. This is the 2nd part of my frustration and anger.
In the past, friends are just a few buttons away. Now, friends are much distant and hard to find. Today, I need a listening ear desperately, that I even tried to call for help in msn, showing this nick “I just need a listening ear. Can someone call my mobile and talk to me?” But no one came after the SOS call. So, I messaged my close friends for a chat, but they are just too busy for me.. (i dont blame them). Finally, the fourth friend lent me her listening ear.
Working for 2 companies aint easy and if i continue on like this, I’m going to waste my precious youth and just get a boring and no-life life. This week is a busy week at Company G. A lot of things to key to the system, and data to re-key to another system. Every day, I’ve been working late, doing OT practically everyday. And because of working, I was physically tired, mentally exhausted. Staying in the office for too long is bad for health, and I have been having headache for the past few days.
When I get back home, I still need to work for Company S. Unlike the past, this week’s lunch break was what I anticipated the most. Because it is a time to get out of the office.. get out of this stressful and tense environment. Usually, I’m not excited to go for lunch.. but recently, yes.
Today was a maximum peak point that I can tolerate for Company S. My blood pressure practically shot up when I received one of my colleagues in Company S. He forwarded me one of the sms that the client sent to him.
The sms reads “Hi Alston. Please do setup the webhost ASAP, both my domain are pointed to your name servers, so my web is down!”
This sms was sent to me.. without the details of the clients, and that colleagues expect me to do something?
When there is things for me to help, the colleague will appear. When I need their help, they just keep slient. Recently, there’s a lot of clients asking for some technical support. Such emails should not be answered by me but the technical staff. BUT I DID NOT RECEIVE ANY EMAILS THEY’VE SENT BACK TO THE CLIENT! I was told that whenever I use my own personal company email to reply, I need to cc a copy to the admin email. So, now, I dont even know if the technical staff reply the clients.
Mentioned in my previous entry, the emails that clients sent to the main administration email account will be then forwarded to my own personal email account. So does the technical staff. If they are reading and checking their inbox, they should be able to see the emails, and then give immediate reply if client asking for technical support. But practically, they didnt.
Sometimes I think.. is it worth it? Should I continue to work for Company S or just go? People taking me for granted that I will go online everyday, check the email, reply clients. So these few days, after working OT at company G, I’ve practically no time to check my Company S email. And no one in Company S bothered to at least help out or ask if I need any help..
Practically.. NO..
I dont want to have a No-life life, bury myself by working days and nights. Something has to be let go. I know that this kind of life is not what God wants me to do too. I had enough of this…
