Starting this session- Health Bits whereby i will give you some tips about keeping healthly, looking good. Today, we will talk about our precious eyes that allow us to see this beautiful world.

Everyday, our eyes are in constant contact with air pollutants, bacteria, dry air, wind, cosmetics and many other factors. These can be the reasons for eye infections. Although we have eye lashes and eyelids to proctect the eye, but they are still not enough.

While washing our face, we also prevent infections of the lid. To prevent infections, gently massage the outside of the eyelids (eye closed) with a hand towel or cotton buds soaked in warm water or a mild baby shampoo daily. This controls bacteria growth and massage the blocked lipids out of the sebaceous glands found in our eyelids.

Girls, please also remember to remove all makeup and clean the eyes as the makeup particles can get into your eyes during the night. Use and move the cotton pad inward, towards your nose. If you rub in other direction, the lower lid can be pulled away slightly, allowing debris to enter.

If you are a sporty person, remember to wear protective eyewear/ sunglasses to protect from eye injuries.

Many girls would like to look good. So they will throw away their glasses and wear contect lens. Problems associated with wearing contact lneses can be easily avoided by:

  1. Going for a follow up check up after testing new contacts for a week
  2. Do not sleep with your contact lenses on
  3. Never use yap water to clean contact lenses. Use saline solution
  4. Change lens case and replace it every 6 months.
  5. Remove contacts when your eyes feel irritated
  6. Wear sunglasses when you are outside in a windy environment or sunny day to protect again UV radiation

For contact wearers, wearing of lenses will reduced the oxygen supply to the cornea, leading to severe irreversible damages. So, if you wear contact lens for a long time, you should take out the contact lens, before any infections occur.
